Don’t Ignore The Early Warning Signs of Diabetes

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a long-term condition that affects how your body uses food as energy.  When you have diabetes, your body is either unable to produce enough insulin or is unable to use it effectively. Too much blood sugar remains in the bloodstream when there is insufficient insulin or when cells cease reacting to insulin. That can eventually lead to major health issues like kidney failure, heart disease, and eyesight loss.

Diabetes still has no known cure, although managing your weight, having a healthy diet, taking your medication as advised, and staying active can all assist in reducing the risk of having diabetes.

Know About Early Warning Signs of Diabetes

Sometimes the warning signs can be very slight. This can be especially relevant for type 2 diabetes. Some people are unaware they have it until they experience issues as a result of the disease’s long-term effects.

The symptoms of type 1 diabetes typically appear within a few days or weeks which can be more severe.

  • Frequent urination – The kidneys have to work harder to remove extra sugar from the blood when there is too much sugar in the blood. In order to remove the extra sugar from the body, the kidneys generate more urine. Therefore, the first indication of diabetes may be frequent urination.

  • Weight Loss – Unexpected weight loss may indicate diabetes, especially if the condition is untreated or undiagnosed. When the body cannot correctly use glucose, it may begin to break down muscle and fat for energy.

  • Dry mouth and excessive thirst – The body reduces extra glucose when blood sugar levels are high by producing more urine. Dehydration may result from this procedure, leaving the mouth feeling consistently dry. In order to prevent dehydration, the body simultaneously signals a greater demand for fluids, which causes an insatiable thirst.

  • Slow-healing wounds – The high blood sugar levels of diabetes might obstruct the body’s natural healing process. Diabetes can destroy nerves, therefore if you have the disease untreated, this might be quite harmful. It is more difficult to feel cuts, scrapes, or blisters when nerves are injured in an affected body area.

  • Blurry Vision – Diabetes can be identified by blurry vision or other visual problems, which are typically caused by blood sugar variations that impair the lens’s ability to focus. Increased blood sugar levels may cause temporary alterations in the lens’s shape, which might affect vision. It is essential to identify and treat these symptoms as soon as possible in order to manage diabetes-related eye problems.
